Debian ppc64el port

This page tracks the progress of the ppc64el port (unofficial).

Archive

Currently, the archive is mostly based on the Debian archive snapshot (timestamp 20140123T160750Z).

Binary Packages

The binary packages can be found at http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/ppc64el/debian/archive/

Source Packages

The source packages are mostly snapshot-based (http://snapshot.debian.org/archive/debian/20140123T160750Z/), plus debdiffs available at http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/ppc64el/debian/debdiff

There is a tool that is a wrapper for apt-get source that gets the source code from the snapshot repository and applies the debdiff, generating the same source code used to generate the compiled binaries. This tool could be found at:

http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/ppc64el/debian/scripts/

buildd

Yes. Building every new package that arrives at the Debian archive. Logs and archive at http://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/ppc64el/debian/buildd-upstream/.

More than 9K (of ~10k) source packages built without any external patch.

Installation

See the ppc64el/Installation page.

Development

Development Team

There are significant contributions by people from open-source communities and companies.

If you are a Debian developer interested in this port, let us know. One of the criteria to turn this port into official is to have 5 DD.

Development machines

A Debian/ppc64el virtual machine is available at Unicamp and can be used by developers. If you want an account on this environment, feel free to ask it to Ramon Medeiros <ramonn@br.ibm.com> and Breno Leitao <brenohl@br.ibm.com>, by providing the following information:

  • Username
  • Public key
  • Quick comment specifying which area you are going to work
  • How long you will need the machine

ppc64el mini cloud

You can also be able to get acceess to ppc64el virtual machine on the openPower mini cloud. This is an easy, free and fast way to have access to the ppc64el unique virtual machine. For now, Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora are availabe.
