Purpose

The purpose of this page is to demonstrate that kfreebsd-amd64 meets the [http://release.debian.org/lenny_arch_policy.html architecture recertification criteria for lenny].

If some of these requirements are irrelevant or implausible for the port, please add a waiver request indicating why and how this isn't a problem for the arch in bold.

Availability

The architecture is publicly available without NDAs via:

1. [http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9331,00.html AMD]

2. [http://www.intel.com/technology/architecture-silicon/intel64/index.htm Intel]

Developer machines

The following machines are available to developers:

  1. asdfasdf.debian.net - maintained by Aurelien Jarno and Gürkan Sengün, connectivity by ETH Zürich, Department of Physics.

Port maintainers

The Debian port is maintained by the following developers, who actively work on architecture specific issues:

  1. Aurelien Jarno
  2. Petr Salinger
  3. Guillem Jover
  4. Robert Millan
  5. Cyril Brulebois

Users

The port is being actively used at the following sites:

Popcon indicates 4 users of the architecture as at 2008/02/19.

Installer

Debian-Installer is not ported yet. A hacked version of FreeBSD installer is currently used.

Upstream support

Upstream support is provided by:

  • glibc: not supported upstream. Petr Salinger and Aurelien Jarno maintain patches on svn.debian.org.
  • gcc, g++: not officially supported, but changeset is already merged upstream.
  • kernel: yes, supported by FreeBSD.
  • boot loader:
    • FreeBSD loader: yes, supported by FreeBSD.
    • GRUB: Upstream supports UFS1 and UFS2, and loading kFreeBSD via /boot/loader.

Archive coverage and Autobuilder support

As of 2009/02/11:

Archive cleanliness

The port builds from unmodified Debian source. (Except a few packages that are provided separately in a third-party archive.)

Autobuilders

The following machines run buildds for the port:

  • oldstable (oldstable-proposed-updates, oldstable-security)
    • This suite does not exist for kfreebsd-amd64.

  • stable (proposed-updates, stable-security)
    • This suite does not exist for kfreebsd-amd64.

  • testing (testing-proposed-updates, testing-security)
    • This suite does not exist for kfreebsd-amd64.

  • unstable
    • himalia2.debian.net - connectivity via 100MBps, hosted by Lost Oasis, buildd logs checked and administrated by Aurelien Jarno.
    • ganymede2.debian.net - connectivity via 100MBps, hosted by LRI, buildd logs checked and administrated by Aurelien Jarno.
