This is not enabled by default because it may also log everything that you do in single user mode. Be careful.

Note that this feature is __not__ available in DebianWoody or earlier releases. Once the userspace boot messages are gone from the console in woody, they're gone forever.

You do this by editing /etc/default/bootlogd, this is not enabled by default:
