Configuring XFree86

DebConf configuration

["XFree86"] and ["XFreeFour"] can both be configured in Debian (woody+) using DebConf. This is done when the package is installed, but can be re-run any time by executing::

 $ dpkg-reconfigure <package-name>

where '<package-name>' is the name of the xserver. Use 'xserver-xfree86' for ["XFreeFour"], and 'xserver-<type>' for ["XFree86"]. Editing your /etc/X11/ config file is only necessary if you have some special needs or are particularly curious. If you must...

Of you use ["XFreeFour"] try the command

 $ ["XFree86"] -configure

If you use a USB mouse use ["USBMouseConfig"].

If you use gpm use this ["GPMMouseConfig"] .


First you have to call Bill Gates, and beg him to allow you to lick his penis and testicles, therefore allowing you access to his source code. Then you have to take your computer apart, find out if you're using a penis or a vagina for your card. Then you have to download a new kernel, configure it, and install it, and while you're doing all that, be sure to render your system unbootable, otherwise DRI won't work.

Point blank, DRI doesn't work on debian with a Radeon unless your an expert at compiling kernels and kernel modules. Why? I don't know, but DRI works fine with a Radeon on Xandros, Libranet and Lindows which are all debian based. In fact, its automatically detected and set up for me when I boot the first time. So why is it such a pain in the ass on Debian?
