How to use X2Go Desktop Sharing on Debian 10
It took me a while to figure why X2Go Desktop Sharing wasn't working on my Debian Server.
After searching for the answer for a few days, I finally found the answer from x2go-users mailing list (see below).
Let's get started.
- How to use X2Go Desktop Sharing on Debian 10
Install X2Go Desktop Sharing
First, let's install x2godesktopsharing pkg on Debian 10 Server
$ sudo apt update $ sudo apt install x2godesktopsharing
If you see "Create x2godesktopsharing group?", choose <Yes>
If you see "Auto-start X2Go Desktop Sharing applet?", choose <No>
Add Users to Desktop Sharing Group
I have two users (tchung and john) on this Debian 10 Server with x2go. Let's call it d10-x2go.
I have added both users to x2godesktopsharing group
$ sudo adduser tchung x2godesktopsharing $ sudo adduser john x2godesktopsharing
Create X2Go Session with XFCE
Create X2Go Session with XFCE for 2nd User (john)
This is the Desktop Session for 2nd User (john) who will share desktop with 1st user (tchung)
I've already installed x2goserver, x2goclient, x2godesktopsharing and XFCE on this Debian 10 Server
If you haven't see my previous howto on X2GO, please check it out.
Session Name: d10-x2go Host: d10-x2go Login: john SSH port: 22 [x] Try auto login (via SSH Agent or default SSH key) Session Type: XFCE
Enable X2Go Desktop Sharing
Once 2nd User (john) connects to Debian Server with X2Go, he can enable Desktop Sharing
From XFCE Applications => Internet => X2Go Desktop Sharing
You'll see a new applet with red X mark. Right Click on it and choose "Activate Desktop Sharing"
Create X2Go Session with Local Desktop
Create X2Go Session with Local Desktop for 1st User (tchung)
This is the Desktop Session for 1st User (tchung) who will connect to 2nd User (john)'s Desktop.
Session Name: d10-x2go (Desktop Sharing) Host: d10-x2go Login: tchung SSH port: 22 [x] Try auto login (via SSH Agent or default SSH key) Session Type: Connect to local desktop
Connect to X2Go Desktop Sharing
When the 1st User (tchung) make the connection to local desktop on d10-x2go, you'll see a list of desktop to choose from.
Click "Full Access" next to john
Approve or Deny Connection for Desktop Sharing
As soon as the 1st User (tchung) click on "Full Access" next to john, 2nd User (john) will see a dialog with "Grant Access" or "Deny Access"
As soon as john click on "Grant Access", 1st User (tchung) will see same screen as 2nd User (john)
Now, both users are sharing the same desktop!
Disconnect X2Go Desktop Sharing
To disconnect from john's "Shared" desktop, right-click on the X2Go Desktop Sharing applet and choose "Disconnect tchung.."
John can also "Deactivate desktop sharing" if he does not wish to share his desktop any more.
