The Debian identi.ca account is now fed by the Debian micronews site. This page hasn't been updated since the micronews site was created.
identi.ca/debian (Pump.io network)
Identi.ca is an instance of the Pump.io network (an activitystreams social network, federated, using the free software Pump.io).
https://identi.ca/debian is an identi.ca account under control of the Debian project (password stored in the Publicity Team infrastructure).
You can follow it to stay in touch with Debian news, using your Pump.io account (no matter if it's not in identi.ca).
RSS feeds for bits.debian.org and announcements are published automatically.
You might want to read this wiki page about Pump.io clients: Clients
You can also use the RSS feed to feed other social networks.
Propose Dents
You are also welcome to propose dents (i.e. short messages to be posted via the account). To that end please contact the publicity team (IRC, mail, etc.).
IRC (#debian-publicity) is currently preferred for suggesting dents; just drop a line on the channel with your dent, prefixed by "DRAFT: " (without quotes). People with access to the @debian identica account will then ack (dropping a line with "ACKED") and post your dent if appropriate (will report to the IRC channel DENTED/TWEETED/QUITTERED)
Policy for Dents
- Generally you should use normal links as they are used in HTML rather than pasting the URL as text.
Use regular links to avoid short URLs. Only if necessary, shorten URLs with deb.li (no statistics) or http://bit.ly (the same URL suffixed with a "+" then gives useful statistics)
When announcing an interesting article seen on Planet Debian, try to attribute it to the corresponding pump.io account when possible (see table below). Example: "How to have a Debian meeting without turning into a secret cabal, by @zack@identi.ca http://bit.ly/dbg9Rv #planet"
- Redents are allowed, they should start with "♺ @author:" and quote only the original author of the dent (and not intermediary persons having redented the message).
Pump.io does not implement hashtags yet, but you can add them for the future, or to be linked when using the RSS feed in StatusNet/Twitter:
#planet: when the link points to an article discovered on http://planet.debian.org
- #ml: when the link points to a mailing list discussion
#news: official press releases published on http://www.debian.org/News/
- #devel: when the stuff is only interesting for developers/contributors
Post Dents
- Make sure you address posts to Public and Followers, the website defaults to just Followers.
- You can use Dianara to preference always posting to both.
- Once you have posted a dent, please post the exact text you posted to the IRC channel, prefixed with "POSTED: ".
