Announcing the BrDesktop Lenny release, the Debian Pure Blend for the brazilian home desktop users.

What is BrDesktop?

It is a selection of official Debian GNU/Linux packages, a Pure Blend, pre-configured to be a targeted purpose Debian GNU/Linux. Brazilian home desktop users.

ALL of its packages are in the official Debian GNU/Linux repositories and all at repositories can be installed. The BrDesktop difference is the selection, default language, programs and security preconfigurations for home desktop users, streamlined installation because of some preconfigurations, the option of using it as a Live CD, the complete own desktop theme, and the participation of the Debian brazilian community at these.

The ?BrDesktop Lenny iso images uses the Debian GNU / Linux 5.0.1 Lenny packages updated until 11 April 2009.

Some of the default ?BrDesktop packages are:

  • GNOME as the desktop environment
  • Iceweasel as the web browser and Icedove as the email client.
  • Gimp, Inkscape and Gthumb for visualization and image editing.
  • ?BrOffice.org for office suite

  • Listen for music playing and organizing
  • Totem for video playing
  • Amule and Deluge-torrent for peer-to-peer sharing
  • Cheese for takign photos and videos using web cam

The ?BrDesktop is developed and maintained by brazilian users and developers. The development process is coordinated using the discussion list and IRC, available to all interested to participate. All improvements will become part of Debian Project official repository, and as such must follow the Debian Policy for quality. Visit the Development section of ?BrDesktop site.

End user support is done at the Debian User Portuguese mailing list as it is a Debian GNU/Linux Pure Blend.
