NOTE: this is a draft based on some previous practices and some new ideas. Please discuss on the debian-outreach mailing list if you want to make any major changes.
Reasons for these policies
- increasing probability that projects are successful
- ensuring that if the primary mentor has to suddenly withdraw, any other mentor or admin can quickly find out about the status of the project
Policies
interns must submit a report every week, to be sent to the debian-outreach mailing list, on a blog post or in a page on the Debian wiki
- interns must have a wiki home page (not the same as your project page) with:
- contact details: email address, IRC nick
- link to project page
- blog link
the category CategoryGsocStudent2018 at the bottom of the page
a category for your country, e.g. ?CategoryCountryIndia
- interns must have a wiki page for your project, which can be maintained jointly with the mentor
- link to issue tracker or project management tool
- if it is a shared tool, link to a report that filters by user and project tags if any
- link to the weekly reports, e.g. blog
- link to the mentor(s)
- notes about communications channels used for the project (e.g. which mailing list or IRC channel)
- interns working on the same topic share a single project page but it must be clear how the work is divided between interns. Interns can also have separate pages if that is more sensible, the mentor can choose.
- link to issue tracker or project management tool
mentors are encouraged to create a home page with category CategoryGsocMentor and add yourself in the mentors table
- any cloud tools used for project management or communication must provide read-only access to people who are not logged in so that any member of the community can see the project without signing up to any cloud service
- no intern may be required to install non-free software or use a non-free service unless this requirement was obvious or agreed to during the application phase
- a call or IRC meeting at least once per week, preferably at a fixed time written on the project wiki
