Debian Perl Group

(!) "Please consider joining the Debian Pkg-perl group, helping us co-maintain our packages, and having us co-maintain yours." (Gunnar Wolf (not only) in February 2006)

Task description

These are our goals:

We want to constantly improve the coverage of available perl modules in debian. Specifically, we aim to:

  • Adopt orphaned Perl module packages.
  • Handle the RFP (Request For Package) of Perl modules.
  • Document and improve the usage of tools like dh-make-perl.
  • Help with bugs in Perl packages.
  • Keeping Perl packages in the Debian archive as up-to-date as possible.

Infrastructure

Interacting with the team

  • Email: <debian-perl AT lists DOT debian DOT org>

  • IRC: #debian-perl on irc.debian.org (OFTC)

How to get involved

A good way to get involved is to introduce yourself on the mailing list. A simple email about yourself saying what your goals are, how you might like to contribute, and what you would like to get from the group is the standard introduction protocol. It does not have to be formal of course. Here is a recent example: example introduction email

Technically speaking you need to register an account at alioth.debian.org and include your alioth username in the introductory mail to <debian-perl AT lists DOT debian DOT org>; one of the project admins will add you to the group.

After that it is simply a matter of finding modules or packages that you use or are interested in. Follow the guide for subversion (link above) and you are off and running!

Debian developers can join easily. Simply svn-inject your Perl module package (see the Subversion guide) and mail a note to the group. All Debian developers already have commit access. Remember to check out the sources back to avoid a fork :)

Dump your lib*-perl package here

If you don't have time even for this, just send a signed mail to debian-perl@lists.debian.org and list the packages you want us to take over.
