Kit list per talk room
Audio
2x Headset Radio Mic
2x Hand-held Radio Mic (omnidirectional, because people hold them the wrong way)
2x Mic Stands (Good for getting people to queue up to ask questions - use with hand-held mics) (we have 1)
4x 2m XLR cable (mic receiver to snake)
- Radio Mics need to be licence free in all 3 ITU regions
- We need to be able to change frequency to avoid interference with other users
- Radio Mics are a minefield regarding licence and available frequencies we can use, the licence exempt spectrum (not 2.4GHz/5GHz) is not wide enough and does not permit more than 2 mics to be used.
- We should purchase only 1 room worth of kit NOW and re-examine later...
Tasks:
- Identify suitable radio mic systems (farm off to QAV)
- Possible Open Hardware project?
- applies to UK
2x Ambient Mic (pick up audience chatter / shout out questions)
2x Microphone stand (for ambient mics)
2x 20m XLR cable (to run from ambient mic to desk)
1x 5m 3.5mm stereo Jack to 2x 1/4" mono jacks (PC Audio to DI Box)
1x stereo DI box (2x 1/4" socket In to 2x XLR-M) active / phantom powered (PC audio)
2x 2m XLR cable (DI to snake)
1x 25m Mic 'snake' reel - 6 in 2 out
1x 8 channel mixing desk
- Requires minimum 8 XLR input channels
- Requires main and aux outputs (I am going to assume XLR for both of these - for this shopping list)
- main XLR goes to Main Camera
- Aux Send goes to house PA (preferably as a slide fader)
2x 5m XLR cable mixing desk to Main camera
2x 20m XLR cable mixing desk to PA (potentially via snake)
1x Balanced to unbalanced stereo balun transformer (XLR-F in to 1/4" Socket Out)
2x 2m 1/4" Mono Jack to Jack
1x 2m 1/4" Mono Jack to stereo 3.5mm jack
1x 2m 1/4" Mono Jack to RCA phono plug
1x 3.5mm Socket to 1/4" mono jack adapter
Camera
- Sony PXW-X70 (6x purchased)
Camera cable. SDI cable on a reusable reel something like:
- Possibly run Ethernet alongside?
- Cable needs to be very flexible and suitable for 'hard' re-use (i.e. multiple install / un-install, across floors etc)
Opsis: Presentation capture
- Opsis FPGA Video to USB
- 1U case
MinnowBoard Turbot (Micro PC)
- Works well - confirmed at Video Team Sprint Paris 2016-11-18

- Keyboard, Mouse
Tasks:
- Confirm that the Turbot is a suitable PC system Done - works fine
- Update to fanless PSU

- IEC power
- Power Switch
- LED from nRST of OPSIS

Flight Case Builds
Front of House Rack
Build a 19" Flight case containing Radio mic receiver, Storage draw, Opsis (and Support PC - Turbot), Packet Switch, Power.
To the wall of a 6U tray attach IEC mains inlet, as well as 2xBNC antenna and 2xRJ45 bulkhead connectors. To the floor of the 6U tray attach the the mains power block. European plug / sockets have been selected because this matches most of our existing wall wart power supplies! The 6 U tray creates the rear wall of the flight case, whilst the equipment (and draws populate the front) The the packet switch should also be attached to the floor of the tray.
Use RJ45 patch cables to connect the packet switch to both ethernet ports on the Opsis 'box' (i.e. Opssis and Turbot), and the 2 bulkhead ports of the tray. Also use BNC patch cables to connect the 8 antenna points on the mic receivers to the antenna distribution system and then connect the antenna distribution system's two outputs to the inside of the BNC bulkhead connectors.
Attach the DI box to the tray. Attach stereo 3.5mm out from the Milkymist IO board (Opsis box) to the input on the DI box (alternatively provide RCA/ 1/4" jack connectors on the tray if milkymist does not support HDMI audio capture through the Opsis). Attach the 6 XLR Male connectors to the wall of the tray. Take 4 to the radio mic receivers and the remaining two to the DI box.
