Debtags and Debian Archive Integration
Mentor: Undefined, but EnricoZini and the FTPMaster team? (Note from Enrico: I have no time to mentor GSoC projects, I prefer to be an AM and get new DDs into Debian instead)
Summary: Integrate Debtags into the Debian Infrastructure and the required tools to replace the current archive sections
- Knowledge of Debian Archive, sections
- DAK and Python
#144046 - general: Sections are not finely grained
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/02/msg00856.html - Upcoming Section changes in the archive
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2009/02/msg00942.html - Making some tags mandatory
Comments from Enrico
I'm not sure about this one for several reasons:
- ftp-master has had no time to comment my proposal, so I think it is premature to turn it into a GSoC proposal.
- If ftp-master likes my proposal, it really should not be much work to do this integration, but that little about of work is going to require having very clear ideas: I do not think that a GSoC project should consist on a mentor spending days to explain someone how to write 100 lines of code in 2 hours.
The main thing that is needed for Debtags integration to happen is to reach an agreement with ftp-master on how to do it. Mail and IRC pings have failed so far, so I suppose it's now just a matter of waiting for Debconf and get it done there.
