The stable Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" includes parts of 0.96: most of Glucose, but missing most of Fructose.
Running the Sugar interface on Debian
Installation on plain Squeeze/Wheezy/Sid
Use the following on Squeeze/Wheezy/Sid to install officially available parts of either Sugar branch:
aptitude install sucrose-0.96

Work on improved packaging from scratch is available through these commands:
sudo aptitude install git-buildpackage debcheckout sugar-base cd sugar-base git-buildpackage
