  • Reports:

Unfortunately, the venue is accessible only via (pretty steep) stairs so getting people in who need a wheel chair is tricky. The front door looks like https://www.dblug.nl/images/f/f3/VoordeurKnoflook.jpeg . You might have to ring a doorbell (the one which is almost hidden behind a tree) in order to get in.

Consuming a (warm) take-away meal is permitted. Drinking alcohol is permitted.

There will be food and drinks and socializing. Also tables, chairs, power and maybe even wireless internet for those who prefer that. And: you're very much invited to bring anything you'd like to use/drink/eat/share to the venue. (I myself would not bring meat, since on other days there is a strictly vegetarian kitchen operating from this venue.)

Participants are expected to behave in accordance with both the Debian Code of Conduct and the DebConf Code of Conduct . If you are harassed and requests to stop are not successful, or notice a disrespectful environment please contact community@debian.org. The Debian Community Team will treat your request with dignity and confidentiality, investigate, and take whatever actions appropriate.

The main organiser can be reached via the public list debian-events-nl@lists.debian.org. In case more privacy is needed, contact ?JoostvanBaal-Ilić at joostvb@debian.org. For online coordination, you're invited to use the OFTC/#debian-nl IRC channel.

Remember: this ship has no passengers, only crew.

Report: We welcomed 15 participants, from 4 countries and 2 continents. Thanks a lot especially to dbLUG / harold and urbec , the Knoflook Den Bosch crew and Peter van S for their help in making this event possible.

US: Pacific (virtual ONLY!)

  • When: 2025-08-09 4:00 PM US/Pacific (2025-08-09T23:00Z) 'till the earlier of midnight US/Pacific (2025-08-10T07:00Z) or as late as folks will have it

  • Where: online (virtual ONLY!): https://meet.jit.si/CABAL See Jitsi and meet.jit.se notes below, especially if there's either of those that one hasn't used before.

  • What: online (virtual ONLY!) via web conference (or app), various Debian and Linux and potentially interested folks likely to attend

  • Bring: your virtual presence via capable web browser or app - zero need to travel at all!

  • More information further below

  • Reports: see (mini-)Report further below

Also check back on this page later for various updates (any changes, more info, reports, etc.).

Jitsi and meet.jit.se notes:

  • Jitsi Meet
    • Free OpenSource web conferencing software/app.

    • One can run it directly in most any reasonably capable browser on computer, tablet, or smart phone, or there's also the Jitsi app one can use.
    • If you've not used it before, suggest to join 3 to 10 minutes early, or first try it out beforehand on another meeting URL

which you can create yourself - just start at https://meet.jit.si/ to create one, or directly enter most any suitable URL starting with that and it is created upon use/access, but see also the bit below about meet.jit.se

    • recommended to use ear buds or headphones to avoid audio feedback issues.

    • Please mute your microphone while not talking. Particularly important when more folks are in the meeting and/or there are background sounds/noises. Jitsi also conveniently has a "push to talk" feature one can use: hit the space bar when main meeting pane section is active/selected, and that then becomes a "push to talk" button, unmuting microphone while held down, and microphone muted when it's released. One can revert that by using the regular microphone (un)mute by clicking the microphone icon, then one goes back to the default behavior where clicking that microphone icon toggles muted/unmuted.

    • They (primarily) develop on Debian, though using their hosting (see further below) for this meeting. And yes, I've created and set up self-hosted Jitsi Meet servers on Debian before. From the earlier:

my post on their forum about going from base Debian installation to fully operational Jitsi Meet server in minutes and aforementioned script I'd developed to be able to do so

  • meet.jit.se
    • in addition to the above, which also applies,
    • is Jits's hosted service on their development server. It is free, however:
    • if one is the first to join a meeting URL (nobody already in that "room"), one will need to login using Google or GitHub,

    • but no need to login if room already occupied

Yet more information.
