Multi-Arch

Goal description

This goal comprises all the changes required to support compilation of binaries for multiple architectures on a single machine. This includes not only the usual amd64/i386 bi-arch systems but also any other combination, including cross-compiling environments for embedded systems.

Current status

• The starting point is the Multi-Arch specification.

• There's some issues to resolve before the final spec.

How to help

• Join discussion with ideas, specially for the unsolved issues.

• Help development of affected packages
• Fix bugs which may be blocking those from going multi-arch.

Next Milestone

• All -dev packages of Multi-Arch:same libraries, should also be Multi-Arch:same

• Virtual provides should not conflict installation of foreign arch -dev packages
• Recommend to multiarch -dev package at the same time as multiarching the library
