ArtistX, based on Debian Live Initiative

[http://www.artistx.org ArtistX] is a free live GNU / Linux DVD which turns a computer into a full multimedia production studio.

ArtistX is based on the [http://debian-live.alioth.debian.org Debian Live Initiative] and includes the 2.6.22 Kernel, Gnome 2.20 , KDE 3.5.7 (both versions ship with both Desktop Environments), the [http://www.powua.com Powua] Client and Powua Tutorials and about 2500 free multimedia software, audio, 2D and 3D graphics, video software, nearly everything that exists for the GNU/Linux environment.

It doesn't need to be installed, and boots directly into a running system without touching hard drives. The files produced with ArtistX can be easily stored on USB devices or CD/DVD medium while it is running. If you want to install it please take a look to our documentation to the ArtistX Installation Manual (Live DVD section).

Powua, a new kind of business enabled using Debian

[http://www.powua.com Powua] is a super computer consisting of many processors that work simultaneously to generate a high computing power, which users can access from wherever they are, directly on their computer, through a simple Internet connection. Powua allows anyone to save time by processing information and realizing their projects more quickly, opening the way to new possibilities.

Debian GNU / Linux [http://www.powua.com/mission/mission enabled] this kind of business, because it has good [http://www.techforce.com.br/index.php/news/linux_blog/massive_installation_management_tools_p_1 massive scale management tools], it is a [http://www.debian.org/intro/free libre Operating System] by its [http://www.debian.org/devel/constitution Constitution] and [http://www.debian.org/social_contract Social Contract], and has 18733+ of [http://qa.debian.org/ officially] maintained [http://packages.debian.org/ prepackaged] applications on [http://www.debian.org/ports 15 hardware platforms].

Xteque s.r.l. , the Italian company behind Powua, also [http://www.powua.com/mission/back contributes back to the communities] with donations of money and computing power. Your institution may apply for the [http://www.debian.org/partners/partners Debian Partner Program] or make various kinds of [http://www.debian.org/donations donations] to the Debian Project.

debimg, a new software to replace debian-cd

[:DebImg:debimg] is a GPL-3 licensed software designed to replace debian-cd. It current feature set is very limited, but building single disks for i386 and amd64 is possible (netinst disks build in about 5 seconds (see the [attachment:DebImg/build_log.txt build log] of a 3.72 seconds build on a HP Compaq 6720s GR644ET laptop with 2GB RAM)). It still misses many features like disk sets and multi-arch.

There is also development of an Ubuntu version of debimg, using ["Germinate"] as a backend. The code of this branch will later be incorporated into the master branch.

If you want to try it out, follow the instructions given in the [http://lists.debian.org/debian-cd/2008/04/msg00010.html 0.0.3 release announcement]. It's very easy.

Development progress

The development efforts to release Lenny at target September continue. The freeze is [http://zomers.be/~luk/blog/content/To_freeze_or_not_to_freeze.html almost] happening. The python 2.5 [http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/04/msg00017.html transition happened] and perl 5.10 will be soon. Among [http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2008/04/msg00013.html other development news], Debian Project has a [http://www.debian-ports.org/ new machine] for hosting future officially supported architectures. This way porters could spend their time porting packages instead of fighting with the infrastructure.
