Whacky Ideas For New Policies
This is an ideas pool for future policies that are not currently implemented. These ideas are not currently implemented and are not part of official Debian policy.
Proposed Error Documentation Policy
Documentation of Causes and Resolutions
This policy would create a requirement for any error messages produced by an application to be documented together with causes and resolutions where possible.
Maintaining a comprehensive list of error messages
Under this policy, documentation relating to all error messages would be available, and a complete alphanumerical list of error messages would be maintained in a centralized location.
Proposed Colour freedom policy
Under this policy the colour of any graphically displayed system component could be changed by the user.
Proposed etc directory policy
Under this policy the /etc directory would contain only human readable files in standard configuration file format, and symlinks to binary files would be relocated.
Proposed Hyphen switch policy
Under this policy a single hyphen presented as a command line argument is treated as an end of switches marker, allowing all subsequent arguments to be treated as parameter data.
Proposed Package building policy
Proposed Source existence policy
Note
Before you put your random idea here, make sure that :
You are actually willing to do the work your self, to get your idea through. Do you have spare time ? (search for the word "proposal" in Debian mailing lists).
The Policy can actually be enforced at Debian level. (Debian isn't just going to ask the whole open source community to do something according to Debian's policy).
