= MATE Upstream Release Policies =

MATE (like many other desktop environments) use __odd__ version numbers
to __indicate__ that the particular package is a __development version__.

Stable releases, however, get indicated via __even__ release numbers.

**Examples**:

  * ''1.6.x'' -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.6 (deprecated)
  * ''1.7.x'' -> previous development version
  * ''1.8.x'' -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.8 (current version)
  * ''1.9.x'' -> current development version
  * ''1.10.x'' -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.10 (work in progress)
  * ...

**Note:** Only stable releases of the MATE desktop environment are packaged inside Debian.
