MATE Upstream Release Policies
MATE (like many other desktop environments) use odd version numbers to indicate that the particular package is a development version.
Stable releases, however, get indicated via even release numbers.
**Examples**:
1.6.x -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.6 (deprecated)
1.7.x -> previous development version
1.8.x -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.8 (current version)
1.9.x -> current development version
1.10.x -> MATE component belongs to the stable bundle release MATE 1.10 (work in progress)
- ...
**Note:** Only stable releases of the MATE desktop environment are packaged inside Debian.
