Short for Point to Point Protocol.
If you access the Internet through a ["modem"] connected to a dialp-up phone line (including ["mobile modem]s), then the connection is negotiated using the PPP.
A PPP interface is managed by the PPP damon ["pppd"] with comes in the ["ppp"] package. Thus, for the user, configuring a PPP interface means configuring pppd.
