[DRAFT] Wiki Content Guidelines
This page details the guidelines that all content on the Debian Wiki should meet.
This wiki is a support and documentation resource for the Debian project, as well as a means of communication between contributors.
- Content on this wiki should be about Debian!
- Content should be polished and useful to readers. Draft pages should be created under your userspace, and can be moved to its final location once finished.
It is recommended that new pages display their copyright and license information at the bottom of the page and be made available under a DFSG-compliant license. See below for how to do this.
Choose an appropriate namespace for new pages. Most of the time, there is a namespace for the topic your page is about that you can place your page under. For example, information on packaging should be a subpage of Packaging. Consider your personal userspace and the Teams wiki pages.
- See if there's an existing page that can be improved before creating a new page to
- Does your content belong on the wiki? See below for other places content can go.
Displaying copyright information
It's imperative that new content displays the correct copyright and licensing information so that readers know how they can use the content, and it ensures that your content is available under a DFSG-compliant license. See DFSGLicenses for a lisst of such licenses.

Other places for content
Some content doesn't belong on the Debian wiki, there are other homes for them.
https://www.debian.org/doc/ - Official Debian documentation. This includes information on releases and the installation guide.
https://packages.debian.org/ - Information on Debian packages. Consider whether content is better suited for the package description or its README.Debian instead of creating a new page.
https://bugs.debian.org/ - Debian bugs. Consider documenting problems there instead.
https://www.debian.org/MailingLists/ - Any discussions are best suited here.
https://manpages.debian.org/ - Manual pages for packages in Debian.
- Some teams have websites where official documentation exists, and that should be used instead of the wiki.
