Font Troubleshooing

Not everyone is an eagle-eyed gnome user.

Fonts in my tightvnc session were smaller than those on my desktop despite the same specifications. I have also noticed this using XDM. DPI was the problem.

Determine what DPI your normal X server runs. For me this was in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc.

Invoke tightvncserver with the -dpi argument. This important feature seems to be undocumented.

gtk-theme-switch won't change the menu/interface fonts in firefox/iceweasel.

gtk-theme-switch does not add gtk-user-font line to .gtkrc-2.0, which appears to be what iceweasel reads. i had to manually append something like:

gtk-font-name="Sans 14"

to the end of the .gtkrc-2.0 to get firefox to make its menu fonts bigger.

More attempts to keep my eyes working into old age.

To make the titlebar fonts match the current gtk2 theme, try:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/metacity/general/titlebar_uses_system_font true
