Debian squeeze (6.0) LTS FAQ
Contents
Which archs are supported?
The archs i386 and amd64 only are supported.
Additionally, a few packages will not be supported in the LTS version of the release, primarily some web-based applications which cannot be supported for the additional timeframe. The tool check-support-status from the package debian-security-support helps to detect such unsupported packages. (As of June 2014 the package is in squeeze-lts and in sid, but http://packages.debian.org doesn't list squeeze-lts. The bug is already reported)
What's about non-i386 and non-amd64 archs?
Please update to DebianWheezy. See section 4 of the ReleaseNotes
What is the time frame for Squeeze LTS?
LTS starts at the end of may 2014, after the End of Life of squeeze (end of being oldstable). LTS support ends on 6th of february 2016. See DebianSqueeze#Debian/Squeeze_Life_cycle for more details.
Who will provide updates for LTS?
The release will not be handled by the Debian security team, but by a separate group of volunteers and companies interested in making it a success (with some overlap in people involved). Companies using Debian who are interested in aiding this effort should contact team@security.debian.org.
Where can bugs be reported?
Please report bugs that you found in the packages to the debian-lts mailinglist. The bar for severity will be raised (minor issues will no longer be fixed).
Will there be wheezy-lts?
Squeeze LTS is a first time experiment. It will be considered later whether there's LTS for wheezy as well or again for jessie.
I have a another question about LTS. Whom can I ask?
Have a look at the CategoryLts in this wiki, join the mailinglist debian-lts, join #debian-lts in the IRC or if the questions suits in here, write it to this wiki page.
