Extended Long Term Support

Extended Long Term Support (ELTS) is a commercial offering to further extend the lifetime of Debian releases (after the 5 years offered by the LTS project). It is not an official Debian project. Debian's infrastructure and other Debian resources are not involved.

The project is made possible by sponsors and managed by Freexian. The sponsors decide the scope of supported packages but updates and security fixes will be available for all Debian users without cost.

The current ELTS release is Debian 8 "Jessie". Detailed information about supported and unsupported packages and how to obtain updates can be found at Extended LTS

It is expected that this service will be active for two years, that is until 2022-06-30. Debian 7 “Wheezy” was supported until 2020-06-30 (about 2 years of support).
