(!) ?Discussion

DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Notes

Choice of architecture

Both i386 and amd64 may be used, Should you choose 32-bit or 64-bit Linux?. Surprisingly there is no definitive answer to be found, if you find any please add it here.
It is often said that amd64 will gain you some performance but are there any reliable benchmarks to support that claim? On the other hand it is said that some software is available only under i386 but there are ways for Running 32-bit Applications on 64-bit Debian GNU/Linux. Even if you have the full 4GB capacity of RAM populated, it's supported by 32-bit Linux kernels. So you're free to choose whatever you feel like.

Consideration Rescue and Recovery

Prepare non-free WiFi firmware?

If relaying on wireless for installation you'd need non-free firmware iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode to connect, prepare your removable media, else leave it for after installation when you can install the package firmware-iwlwifi from non-free with ease.

Consult the installation guide about Loading Missing Firmware.
