DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owner would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

Models covered

Important Note

Configuration

Display

Display is functional on fresh installation.
Full support to the new Intel Sandybridge chipset requires a newer kernel:
Read the debian instructions first:
http://backports-master.debian.org/Instructions/
Add this:

deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main

to this:

/etc/apt/sources.list

Then run the following:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install dkms
sudo apt-get -t squeeze-backports install linux-image-amd64 linux-headers-amd64

After rebooting into the new kernel the video is fully recognised with the full 1920x1080 resolution. Further support for stuff like compiz can be added by installing X from the backport repo. See this link for instructions: http://x.debian.net/reference/squeeze-backports.html
This worked for me: apt-get install -t squeeze-backports libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx

Audio

Works out of the box

Mouse

Works out of the box

Power Management

Seems a little glitchy.

WiFi

Wifi works using firmware-iwlwifi from the non-free repo

sudo apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

Modem
