DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Configuration
This computer can be purchased in one of the following video adapter :
Display
Xorg
The graphic adapter is an "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]"
(device_identifier/PCI 1002:4c57)
Xwindow was properly configured automatically (using Driver "radeon").
OpenGL
(not covered)
Switching to External Screen
Use a RandR tool, like gnome's scren resolution or xrandr.
Audio / Intel hda 82801G
Device is a "Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller"
(device_identifier/PCI 8086:24c5)
Which uses "Intel HDA driver" module : snd_intel8x0
it was configured properly out of the box.
Keyboard
The Thinkpad hotkeys aren't all handled the same way : Some are captured as ACPI, some aren't.

Mouse
The Thinkpad T60 has a two built-in mouse : a Touchpad and a Trackpoint (both working out of the box). Each mouse's data is available through a separate /dev/input/mouse{0,1} and the combination of both events are available in /dev/input/mice.
Built-in Touchpad
(device identifier "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad", as reported by cat /proc/bus/input/devices) The first mouse is Synaptics Touchpad. If you want to tweak default configuration/behaviour, use touchpad configuration tool: package: (optional:tpconfig)
Works out of the box.
Built-in Trackpoint
(device identifier "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint", as reported by cat /proc/bus/input/devices)
The other built-in mouse is a Trackpoint. The mouse was working, but middle button doesn't scroll by default, some tweaking was required :
/etc/X11/xorg.conf Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" #Comment this line out. #Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true" #add those three lines Option "EmulateWheel" "true" Option "EmulateWheelTimeOut" "200" Option "EmulateWheelButton" "2" #more information http://thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_configure_the_TrackPoint EndSection
Power Management
Configuring Suspend
(Needs Testing) Works out of the box.
Configuring Hibernation
Works out of the box.
CPU Frequency scaling
Enabled by default (see cpufreq-info)
Wifi / Intel 2200
Requires a non-free firmware. see : ipw2200
- You might need to press Fn-F7 to enable the wireless card.
Bluetooth
Some Thinkpad have a built-in "Actiontec Electronics, Inc. [hex] BMDC-2 IBM Bluetooth III w.56k" bluetooth adapter.
(?device identifier/USB 1668:2441)
- Seems to work.
- You might need to press Fn-F7 to enable the wireless card.
Modem
Not really tested, but it seems broken.
