DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Configuration

The nouveau driver works out of the box but the performance is really bad. I tried it with ioquake3 and it lagged really hard.

but if you want to use the proprietary driver from NVIDIA you can get all the power out of it. but the instalation is a little bit tricky.

Because the nouveau driver is loaded by default the NVIDIA driver installer complains about it and asks you to make a file /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia_installer_bla_bla. Don't remember the exact name. Don't do it! And if you have already don't restart your thinkpad! The result will be a Xserver thats tries to display something but can't.

I got it working by doing the following:

1. install the following packages:

2. restart X or the hole mashine 3. install the nvidia driver from nvidia.com

Now you have everything working with the newest shit from NVIDIA.

One small fix will save your day. Atm your unable to adjust the display brightness. So you need to add this line to your xorg.conf Device Section:

 Option         "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"

The hole xorg.conf of my Setup looks like this:

# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 270.41.06 (buildmeister@swio-display-x86-rhel47-08.nvidia.com) Mon Apr 18 15:14:00 PDT 2011
