= Only works with a non-free driver and or firmware
Important Note
- During the test, the SATA disk controller was configured AHCI in mode.
- Make sure that you disable "sleep" (suspend) as soon as you have installed the system.
Configuration
Display
Thinkpad comes in multiple flavour, with different graphic adapter :
Intel
The Intel based T400 have an Integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD, also known as "Intel Mobile 4 Series" ([:device identifier/PCI:]-ID: 8086:2a40, 8086:2a42, 8086:2a43)
Console:
You might want to modify /boot/grub/menu.lst, to set vga=871.
X-Window with vesa driver:
Lenny will use the vesa driver.
- OpenGL acceleration: ?
X-Randr: Trying to change the resolution
kills Xorg ! - To enable/use the external monitor, you need to reboot the laptop (and close the lid before ASAP).
During the test, external monitor, only support resolution < 1680x1200
X-Window with intel driver:
Note: The intel driver is intentionally not used by default on these chipsets in lenny as it's a backport and it hasn't been tested enough. (see 513080). You can reconfigure /etc/X11/xorg.conf to use the intel driver:
Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" # Add this line to force the driver Driver "intel" EndSectionOpenGL acceleration: works openarena was tested).
- Change resolution (with X-Randr): works
- Switching to the external monitor (with X-Randr): works
Using a high resolution external screen requires to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" #Enable external monitor to have larger resolution that boot-time screen SubSection "Display" Virtual 1920 1200 # OR, if you want to have a 1920x1200 monitor and the 1280x800 built-in # screen (1920+1280 = 3200) : #Virtual 3200 1200 EndSubSection EndSection- direct rendering: yes

AMD
The AMD M82XT was not yet tested.
Audio
The audio works fine out of the box ([:device identifier/PCI:]-ID: 8086:293e)
Mouse
X-Window:
The ?TouchPad ("SynPS/2 Synaptics ?TouchPad") works fine out of the box.
The Trackpoint ("TPPS/2 IBM ?TrackPoint") works fine out of the box, but require a minor configuration [:InstallingDebianOn/Thinkpad/Trackpoint:to enable scrolling].
Console:
gpm handles all the mouses properly.
Power Management
- (not covered yet)
WiFi
The model is an Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100 ([:device identifier/PCI:]-ID: 8086:4236).
- See ["iwlagn"]
Modem
- (not covered yet)
AMT / vPro
The iAMT controller is an Intel Chipset MEI Controller ([:device identifier/PCI:]-ID: 8086:2a44).
- (not covered yet)
Fingerprint reader
The Fingerprint Sensor is a AES2810 from ?AuthenTec Inc ([HowToIdentifyADevice/USB:USB ID]: 08ff:2810).
(not covered yet, not supported currently, see libfprint0 and [http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Integrated_Fingerprint_Reader thinkwiki.org] )
3G / HSDPA
The Built-in Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband ([:HowToIdentifyADevice/USB:USB ID]: 0bdb:1900).
(not covered yet, FranklinPiat has a module-assistant package, but it isn't uploaded yet )
