DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Important Notes

Choosing an ISO

Depending on your choice between installing the standard 100% Free Software version of Debian (lacking WiFi proprietary firmware out of the box) and installing the non-free ISO variant (WiFi working out of the box) you may grab an official Debian ISO from below:

Preparing your ISO

If on Windows, search for Rufus and use an USB Thumb Drive to
store the Debian Installation Media. Afterwards, boot into the
installation media and follow the standard instructions offered by the Graphical Installation.
If on Linux, search for instructions on making an Installation Media on your particular distribution.
If preferred, the ""dd"" command may be carefully used on any Unix-Like Operating System.

Configuration

Display

The default Mesa Driver works without any problems.
The Display Controller string is: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965 /GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) (rev 0c)
Xrandr has no problems switching modes and attaching an external display via VGA works without any issues.

Audio

Audio works without any issues on Buster (none observed in daily use)
Audio device string: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)

Mouse

Both the trackpoint and the integrated touchpad are working out of the box
without any issues. Plugging in an USB mouse works too ( This way you
have 3 separate I/O options at the same time )

Power Management

Hibernation and Sleep work out of the box but battery life is very short by default.
To extend the laptop's standby time dramatically please follow the instructions on installing TLP (provided below).
Be sure to install the tp-smapi-dkms kernel module as well for optimal performance.

WiFi

If you've installed the Non-Free version of Debian 10, WiFi should work out of the box. Otherwise, enabling the Non-Free branch and installing the firmware-iwlwifi package should get your WiFi card to acknowledge Linux.
