(!) ?Discussion

DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Important Note

Configuration

Display

Aureum series uses Intel mobile GS40 integrated video chipset, with up to 256 MB shared memory.

Works out of the box with Intel FOSS video drivers

Audio

Works out of the box.

Touchpad

Synaptics driver, as we could see.

Works out of the box.

Power Management

Works out of the box.

Suspend when closing lid. Resume flawlessly. Hibernate and resume flawlessly. Fan control and cpu frequency scaling flawlessly. Screen brightness auto reducing flawlessly. Hard disk spin down not verified yet.

WiFi

You have to install wpasupplicant package as a pre-requisite. You have to downlad latest and greatest Realtek 8192SE PCI linux driver source from http://www.realtek.com.tw. As of 10 March 2010, the wireless connection is still unstable and short range for the 64 bits version. You could use the 32 bit bigmem kernel to get stable connection and long range. It is easiear to compile module installing module-assistant before, as root:

# apt-get update
# apt-get install module-assistant
# module-assistant prepare

Go to the directory where you expanded the tar.gz and then

# make

You could issue a "make install", but will not have a package installed. I compiled and packaged using checkinstall.

# checkinstall make install

You need to edit /etc/modules

pciehp
r8192se_pci

You need to edit /etc/modprobe.d/r8192se_pci.conf to enforce load order and options.

blacklist r8192se_pci
options pciehp pciehp_force=1

After a reboot, the Fn+F10 (hardware card enablers) will activate the Bluetooth and Wireless Network using the pcie hot plug.

Modem

  • Not applicable.

WebCam

Works out of the box.

It is an USB camera. Enable with Fn+F10 and call a webcam app; Cheese, for example.

Hot Keys

Assumed keyboard as ACPI standard. Configuration needed for many of the hotkeys. The best info source for correct configuration, at this moment, is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Architecture . If you manage to get config files for released keys, read /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt for sending a patch and post a link here. Still in the works. Write your experiences.
