DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Important Note
Configuration
Installed Debian11 bullseye on MSI Prestige 14 A10RB, Most of the features are working fine, but there seems to be an issue with UEFI boot turned on. I have installed Debian bullseye alongside Windows which was already shipped with this laptop. I have tried disabling UEFI and Fastboot and enabled the Legacy BIOS to install Debian. I was able to install it successfully but to my surprise GRUB was not able to detect the Windows, it can be accessed only when I go to BIOS and turn on the UEFI and Fastboot but in that case, I am not able to access Debian. For accessing Debian I need to switch to Legacy BIOS and disable the Fastboot.
I tried installing twice, in the first case I installed using the GUI-based installer where I was warned about configuring a GPT partition table on the BIOS, which I have ignored as the partition table was MBR and didn't want to format the whole disk (Have a look at the attached screenshot for reference GPT Warning). In the second case, I used the TUI-based installer where I wasn't warned about creating the GPT-based partition table.
Display
Works out of the box
Audio
Works, including internal mic.
Mouse
Touchpad and trackpoint works
Power Management
Hibernation works fine.
WiFi
WiFi doesn't work out of the box, need to add the "non-free" component to the apt sources.
Installation
Add a "non-free" component to the apt sources.
Update the list of available packages and install the firmware-iwlwifi package:
# apt update && apt install firmware-iwlwifi
As the iwlwifi module is automatically loaded for supported devices, reinsert this module to access installed firmware:
# modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi
Configure your wireless interface as appropriate.
LAN
The LAN is working fine
NVIDIA Drivers
Installation
After enabling npn-free repositories, Install the Nvidia Detect Utility with:
$ sudo apt install nvidia-detect
Detect and Install Drivers using Nvidia Detect Utility to check the model of GPU and get a compatible driver recommendation
$ sudo nvidia-detect Detected NVIDIA GPUs: 02:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GP108M [GeForce MX250] [10de:1d13] (rev a1) Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GP108M [GeForce MX250] (rev a1) Your card is supported by the default drivers. Your card is also supported by the Tesla 460 drivers series. Your card is also supported by the Tesla 450 drivers series. Your card is also supported by the Tesla 418 drivers series. It is recommended to install the nvidia-driver package.
Install the recommended driver
sudo apt install nvidia-driver
It complains about the conflicting module with the already installed module in the kernel, to fix this TUI recommends rebooting the machine.
