DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

LENOVO Ideapad S340 15API
Successfully fresh installed Debian 10.7 (buster) on a S340 15API (15" screen) with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD. I had to use non-free firmware to get it works (Xorg, wifi). Microsoft Windows was installed on the system, I removed it (install over it). I had to disable BIOS secure and fast boot, enable and use Legacy support. Enjoy

Important Note
Installation on Legacy BIOS is working, use F2 key on startup to enter BIOS menu. Disable Fast and Secure boot, use Legacy support and set Legacy support first. Adjust other options if needed like AMD secure mode. Use F12 on startup to enter boot menu.
Configuration
The installer may ask you to load firmware for wifi, see the next Wifi section.
Display
I had bad resolution (like max @1300x700) and I was not able to set brightness before installing the package firmware-amd-graphics/stable. I also updated the kernel to version 5.9 but I can't tell if it's better than the 4.19 version. I also added radeon.modeset=1 radeon.dpm=1 to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (in /etc/default/grub then sudo update-grub). The radeon.dpm is for energy saving. The radeon.modeset to force kernel modules. I can't tell if these options are needed, try to add them if necessary.
Audio
- Everything seems to work great.
Mouse
- All OK (trackpad)
Power Management
I added radeon.dpm=1 to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (in /etc/default/grub then sudo update-grub). The radeon.dpm is for energy saving on hardware. I don't know if it's better with? I have like 5 hours max of battery time.
WiFi
It's OK with firmware. The kernel update (to 5.9 version) seems to add better support? I had to load the firmware when installing to get the wifi working to download extra packages. The installer may ask you to load it. You can get these firmwares on debian wiki or use the link below (current stable debian version): here.
