DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Important Note
Configuration
Display
- The display adapter is
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
Audio
- the sound adapter is
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
It works with module snd_hda_intel, and support is present in the stock Debian kernel for Lenny.
Mouse
- works out of the box
Power Management
- Hibernation and suspend works out of the box.
WiFi
The WiFi adapter is the main problem with this computer, if it is from Broadcom In my case it is a Minicarte Dell Wireless 1395 which is a Broadcom, lspci returns :
06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
so it seems to be a broadcom BCM4312 and so supported by b43 module, but lspci -nn returns :
06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
and in fact it is a BCM4315 which is not supported by b43 module
Using the propietary driver of the manufacturer, see http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.php. It works very well at home with WPA encryption as long as you don't want to use with WPA-EAP / TTLS. Using WPA-EAP / TTLS leads to laptop freeze just after a kernel panic ... If you want to tuse it you have to patch the driver with the patch given here : http://www.broadcom.com/docs/linux_sta/wl_iw.patch I didn't try using ndiswrapper.. I have not already tested bluetooth but it seems to be installed without problems
Modem
- (not covered yet)
FingerPrint Reader
you just need to install libthinkfinger0 libpam-thinkfinger thinkfinger-tools from experimental repository and read /usr/share/doc/libpam-thinkfinger/README.Debian to configure it
