DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

* System also boots up with free driver however some functionality (Suspend/Resume) will not work with it. Also dual screens were not tested with the free drivers.
Legend :
= OK ; Unsupported(No Driver) ; = Error (Couldn't get it working); [?] Unknown, Not Test ; [-] Not-applicable
= Configuration Required; = Only works with a non-free driver and or firmware
Important Note
Tested both Wheezy (stable) and Jessie (testing) with some unstable packages (Iceweasel). Everything runs perfectly. Kernels 3.2 and 3.9 were tested. The only difference this gave was with the Broadcom BCM4313 WiFi chip.
Configuration
Display / ATI
The included ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Worked out of the box. Dual screen also worked - via VGA and HDMI. Still can't get Gnome Menu transparency working with latest (13.6 beta) ATI Driver on Jessie. Driver was downloaded from ATI's Website and was installed via the provided .run executable. After the installation finishes run:
aticonfig --initial
This will create the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file for you with the appropriate configuration.
h.264 wasn't tested. Should work with the Hardware Video Decode Acceleration - xvba-va-driver driver package. Just install: sudo apt-get install xvba-va-driver
This will however depend on fglrx from Debian's non-free repos.
Display / nVidia
- N/A - Add data if you have any
Display / Integrated Intel HD Graphics
- N/A - Add data if you have any
Audio
- The system comes with two sound devices - one on the MB and another in the External Video card. Those are:
- Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
- Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5400/6300 Series]
Intel's sound adapter works fine out of the box. HDMI audio requires ATI Proprietary Driver.
Mouse
- Laptop's Touchpad works out of the box. You can of course use the synaptic driver to get it's standard functionality.
Integrated Webcam
The laptop that installation was tested on had a Microdia Sonix 1.3 MP Laptop Integrated Webcam. Camera works out of the box.
Power Management
Suspend/Resume works fine on both Wheezy (stable) and Jessie (testing) provided that the ATI Proprietary Driver is installed. Hibernation was not tested.
WiFi
Requires non-free firmware! Requires braodcom-sta-dkms with kernel 3.2. Requires firmware-brcm80211 for kernel 3.9. For an example for kernel 3.2 look here. For the latter 3.9 kernel look here. If you are using such a twin-kernel solution then firstly install broadcom-sta-dkms under kernel 3.2 and then install the firmware-brcm80211 package under kernel 3.9.
Modem
- No modem in notebook.
eSATA
- Works out of the box.
