DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Important Note
Configuration
Wheezy installs flawlessly in EFI mode. Legacy boot was not tested. The system runs perfectly in dual screen Full HD (1920x1080 on each).
Display
- Works out of the box with free driver. nVidia proprietary driver was also installed and is working flawlessly.
To install the nVidia proprietary driver follow instructions on that package's wiki page. After installation install the nvidia-xconfig package and run it from a terminal. This will generate the initial XConfig file.
Audio
- Works out of the box with ALSA.
Mouse
Laptop TrackPoint and TrackPad work out of the box.
This may have been true for original creator of this page, but unlikely to be majority experience. Able to install so xserver-xorg-input-synaptics detects TrackPad accurately, but touch signal is erratic when multi-touch is used (i.e. 2-finger scroll, 3-finger zoom, 3-finger right-click, etc.).
Experience across the web shows many issues with Latitude TrackPad - i.e. primarily touch/gesture related (see: Launchpad #1228471 and Launchpad #606238 - would've used Debian Bug record but getting Internal Server Error on search). Solution of adding Sid/unstable repository for latest (1.7.3-1+b1 according to reportbug) xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package, essentially results in a dist-upgrade due to dependencies. Given closed nature of firmware, unlikely to be resolved in package until hardware closer to obsolete, or not at all.
Power Management
- Hibernation was not tested. Everything else works out of the box.
WiFi
The Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 works, but requires non-free firmware - firmware-iwlwifi
Modem
- No modem in the tested system.
HotKeys
- Disable Touchpad hotkey (Fn+F5) doesn't work Unable to adjust screen brightness via keyboard hotkeys. This also doens't work from the Gnome control panel - currently I cannot change screen brightness while booted. This works from BIOS. There is a related Linux kernel issue. Lock hotkey (Fn+F3) does not work. Sleep hotkey (Fn+F1) works OK. 'Calc' and media hotkeys work ok with Rythmbox. All other hotkeys that are not mentioned here work.
SmartCard and Fingerprint Readers
- The machine comes with an optional "Broadcom BCM5880 Secure Applications Processor with fingerprint swipe sensor". These was not tested.
Will add results if I ever use those.
