DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Important Note

Wireless doesn't work with the packages available in the default installation DVD. Before installing Debian I downloaded the .deb packages
firmware-iwlwifi_*_all.deb
In windows I disable fast boot
All the installation works fine with secure boot on UEFI active. After the installation of NVIDIA driver has been necessary to switch off the secure boot otherwise the driver are not loaded properly. NVIDIA driver should be signed by myself

Configuration

Display

Inspiron 5410 has an NVIDIA ?GeForce MX350 discrete video card in addition to Intel Integrated Graphics. NVIDIA card works without problem after installed the nvidia driver
nvidia-driver and firmware-misc-non-free

Audio

It works after installed the package Firmware-sof-signed

Mouse

Works out of the box, configuration of mouse right click emulation it works with gnome tweaks tools

Power Management

WiFi

Requires iwiwifi pakage installation. Unable to install it during installation because there isn’t ethernet card. Installed package firmware-iwlwifi from USB drive
dpkg -install firmware-iwlwifi_20210315-3_all.deb

Modem

SSD

Ottimization for SSD disk
on fstab added option relatime
activated systemctl services fstrim and fstrim.timer with the two command
systemctl enable fstrim.timer
systemctl start fstrim.timer

added a configuration file local.conf in /etc/sysctl.d with the lines
#settings to optimize the swap use for SSD disk
#vm.swappines=0
vm.swappines=1
