Dell XPS 15 7590
For general hints and suggestions consult the Arch Linux wiki page for XPS 7590.
See arch wiki hints on how to:
- prepare windows for switch to AHCI mode (if you plan on dual-booting) with bcdedit.
- switch bios settings: AHCI-mode, POST-behaviour Thurough.
Running the buster/10.0 debian installer (unofficial with firmware) works fine, except you'll need to use an usb ethernet dongle as the wifi will not work during installation.
Install linux-image-amd64 (>= 5.2) and firmware-iwlwifi (>= 20190717) from unstable, sudo rm /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-cc-a0-48.ucode, then reboot. (With the iwlwifi-cc-a0-48.ucode firmware you'll see repeated wifi device resets in system journal.)
WARNING! Do *NOT* install the firmware (BIOS) updates available via LVFS/gnome-software until you've upgraded to linux 5.3. Previous kernel versions will have problems with PCI on the new firmware version resulting in multiple kernel crashes making wifi, nvidia-gpu, etc unusable. (Disaster recovery involves using ethernet dongle and simply apt install linux-image-5.3.0-rc5-amd64.)
