DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

= Only works with a non-free driver and or firmware
Important Note
This configuration is as close as possible to a single-boot system. Using EFI-partitioned systems without a boot manager is not recommended because EFI firmware updates could become rather complex. Installed boot manager is rEFInd (had been installed when still under OS X). A bootable OS X system is kept on an external disk for this purpose.
The availability of the USB-attached Ethernet adapter (not the Thunderbolt Gbps version!) is key to success during installation.
Configuration
Boot manager installation
The installation of the boot manager has to be done while system is still running OS X. The installation should be done directly into EFI partiton, see http://blog.felipe-alfaro.com/2006/09/19/installing-refit-on-the-hidden-efi-system-partition/ about that topic. rEFInd is recommended as boot manager, rEFIt did not alwas work, install rEFInd as recommended by http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/ using the --esp flag.
Partitioning
Recommended: do the partitioning when still using OS X using gdisk.
Ouptput of sudo /dev/sda:
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.5
Partition table scan:
MBR: protective
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: present
Found valid GPT with protective MBR; using GPT.
