DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |

Configuration
WiFi
Must install the package : firmware-iwlwifi wheezy-backports
( You can actually change the mini PCI wifi card by one running libre-software, the Laptop has no PCI restriction )
Computer lights
There is a software called akbl to control the computer lights.
Switch to External Screen
- HDMI : There's a guide for Ubuntu that haven't been tested on Debian. ( The Bumblebee project is working to make it work, and it will be supported in the future. )
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/08/get-hdmi-working-with-nvidia-optimus-on.html
- VGA : It works out of the box
Video Cards
Even if it's not an obligation, it's highly recommended to install Bumblebee. If it's not installed, the CPU temperature will be always up to 70 °C and the computer will consume a lot of battery.
Bumblebee will turn off your discrete video card (the GT 550M), and the Integrated (Intel HD 300) card will always be on. This is good but you won't be able of using the discrete card, it seems that there are some problems for turning it on.
Note: It is actually possible to unweld the discrete video card NVIDIA GT 555m from the computer and only keep the integrated card. I personally did it and it allowed me to avoid installing all the NVIDIA drivers, the bumblebee software and also the resolution when sharing screens by VGA got better.
