WORK IN PROCESS
DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware. The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware. If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware. |
Models covered
Acer ?TravelMate Business
Sub-models (P253-M-32344G50Mnsk) options :
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2348M 2.3 GHz, 3MB Intel® Smart-Cache) - Video card: Intel HD 3000 Grafik
- Screen: 39,62 cm (15,6“) HD LED Display, mat, 1366 x 768, 16:9
- Wireless card: Acer ?InviLink 802.11b/g/Draft-N
- Ram: 4096 MB DDR3, max 8192 MB
- Disk: 500 GB HDD, 5.400 U/Min
- optical device: DVD Super Multi Brenner DVD (DL±RW/CDRW)
Installation
The device came with Windows 8 and SecureBoot and UEFI preinstalled. To install Debian, SecureBoot has to be deactivated: During the Acer boot splash screen, press F2, set supervisor passord, disable SecureBoot. UEFI can be kept. Also change the boot order to have the CD-ROM before the Windows boot loader. If you used Windows before, deactivate quickstart in the system settings. With this setting activated, shutdown is in reality a suspend-to-disk and it is better to have a clean system if the HDD has to be re-partitioned. I have not been able to boot the Live-CD 7.0 or from a USB-memory stick. Netinstall 7.1 works however.
