DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Important Note

To install, disable Secure Boot in the UEFI firmware (you must have created an administrator password in the BIOS). Do not set to BIOS legacy mode. Also set F12 boot to enabled in the firmware. Then select Exit saving changes, the machine will restart. Hold down F12 key during power up, and the UEFI firmware will recognise the external boot media and make it available for boot. I used an external BD/DVD drive with the Stretch DVD-1 connected on USB 3.0, which was recognised and listed for booting. Select the external installation media for boot, the install menu will appear. In my installation I preliminarily created a 64 GB partition for Debian. Existing other OS were Windows 10 and Ubuntu, which also are present and still working. GRUB has detected them and they are now listed in the boot menu.
The Debian install program will detect that non-free firmware for wifi adapter Atheros QCA6174 is required. Was not an issue with Ubuntu. It is possible to install the system first without network from the Debian Stretch DVD-1 and afterwards install the firmware-atheros package. However, that did not seem to be enough, I still had to provide the file /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA6174/hw3.0/firmware-5.bin (actually found firmware-6.bin in the parallel Ubuntu installation and copied+renamed in the proper Debian directory). Then install firmware-realtek for the Realtek Ethernet interface firmware and firmware-misc-nonfree for ¨Skylake" i915/skl_dmc_ver1_23.bin as indicated by kernel failure messages (use dmesg). However, the system will boot and work with graphical interface after DVD installation even before completing the firmware installation.
{X} There is currently a bug that the airplane mode blue key does not work, it is the only hotkey not working. It may be related to the firmware and driver of the WiFi adapter. There is also a kernel parameter rfkill.master_switch_mode which enables the use of an airplane switch, but I have not tried to use it yet.
{X} There is currently a bug that the battery indicator when plugged in indicates "Estimating..." forever, instead of "Charged / Plugged in".
