For controlling the brightness it is required to edit /etc/default/grub and add acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor to the value of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. In the end it should read as follows: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor". Dont forget to run update-grub afterwards. The changes will be effective after a restart.
