DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owner would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

Important Note

The Notebook does not have any any CD/DVD drive, so you need to install it with an image from USB stick. I have used a weekly built i386 image of CD1 squeeze/sid or the i386 architecture, downgraded everything to squeeze, and installed kernel-image-amd64.

To get the touchscreen to work, you will need to compile a 2.6.35 kernel and an xf86-input-evdev module, descriptions to follow.

Configuration

Display

The display is discovered as Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07), and works out of the box, including OpenGL without further configuration.

Audio

The sound adapter is detected as Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller and works without further configuration.

Mouse

The steps are only necessary for Debian Squeeze. After dist-upgrading to wheezy and therefore getting a Linux kernel 2.6.38 and a newer xorg-input-evdev, the touchscreen works without further configuration.

The driver for the touchscreen is available in Linux version 2.6.35. See the attachment for my configuration, that is working for me.

After installing the kernel, the touchscreen is working, but will not calibrate rightly, because you will also need a recent version of xf86-input-evdev. To do so, I got the latest version from git, using the following steps:

git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/~tissoire/xf86-input-evdev xf86-input-evdev
cd xf86-input-evdev/
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
make && make install

For these steps you will need several development packages, e.g. autotools. Just search for the error messages when you try to compile the kernel and xf86-evdev. Good luck ;)

Power Management

Works out of the box without further configuration.

WiFi

The WiFi is detected as Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 and works without further configuration.
