DebianOn is an effort to document how to install, configure and use Debian on some specific hardware. Therefore potential buyers would know if that hardware is supported and owners would know how get the best out of that hardware.

The purpose is not to duplicate the Debian Official Documentation, but to document how to install Debian on some specific hardware.

If you need help to get Debian running on your hardware, please have a look at our user support channels where you may find specific channels (mailing list, IRC channel) dedicated to certain types of hardware.

Special configuration/installation requirements

Video and Wi-Fi drivers.

Update these lines in /etc/apt/sources.list to add "contrib" and "non-free":

deb jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src jessie main contrib non-free

Set up backports by adding this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb jessie-backports main contrib non-free

Then make sure to update the package lists: apt-get update

- Need Intel video driver from jessie-backports (xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2.99.917-2~bpo8+1 or newer) for hardware 3D acceleration. The version in the jessie main repository is too old and does not support the Intel Graphics HD 5500 GPU. After setting up the backports repository, run apt-get install -t jessie-backports xserver-xorg-video-intel

- Need non-free firmware files for the WLAN adapter and Bluetooth adapter. Version from jessie-backports may provide more reliable operation. apt-get -t jessie-backports install firmware-iwlwifi
