i18n Sprint Paris ''towards i18n.debian.org''

Date: June 15-17 2012

Sprint objectives

Please also see the preliminary proposal for details.

Since 2006, the Debian i18n contributors use resources kindly provided by the Region of Extremadura in Spain. This is namely the i18n.debian.net server, codename churro.

This serveris currently less reliable and we are too dependent on it. The sprint goal is therefore to move churro services to an already prepared i18n.debian.org machine. This machine was prepared by Felipe Augusto van de Wiel and Nicolas François during Debconf 11 but has not been used since then.

The most important services to move are the DDTP (Debian Description Translation Project) services (database, web server, DDTSS service that allows online translation for Debian package descriptions), the i18n statistics and data gathering scripts (that help building the i18n status pages on www.debian.org) and several translation robots services that are helpers for i18n teams.

For the meeting being successful, it is recommended to plan arriving on Thursday 14th and leaving on Sunday 17th late, or even Monday 18th. Accomodation sponsoring should include those nights, if possible.

Food

To be organized.

Agenda

To be organized

Tech Details

We will use IRILL resources that have been used for some past Debian sprints and have proven well adapted, particularly the network infrastructure.

Announcements and communication

To be done: give here links to mails announcing the meeting in public.

Attendees

We need to gather "key" people from the i18n team, people aware of the DDTP/DDTSS, former administrators of churro, at least one person from the Debian System Administrators (DSA) team and people aware of issues related to Debian website.
