Smart Common Input Method (SCIM)
SCIM is the Smart Common Input Method, a platform for inputting more than thirty languages, including Chinese-Japanese-Korean style character languages (CJK), and many European languages. SCIM is part of Debian Internationalization
Status:
The upstream is active https://github.com/scim-im/scim but its last tagged release was July/2017 (as of Dec./2021.) The Debian package updates seem less frequent. Please consider to use ibus or fcitx unless you have reason not to.
Purposes:
Provide a simple and powerful-common interface for users from as many language groups as possible. For example see instructions for gnome-chinese-input.
- Provide a clear architecture for programming, so to reduce time required to develop individual input methods.
