The upstream is active https://github.com/scim-im/scim but its last tagged release was July/2017 (as of Dec./2021.) The Debian package updates seem less frequent. Please consider to use ibus or fcitx5 unless you have reason not to.

Purposes:

 * Provide a simple and powerful-common interface for users from as many language groups as possible. For example see instructions for [[gnome-chinese-input]].

 * Provide a clear architecture for programming, so to reduce time required to develop individual input methods.
