## Auto-converted by kwiki2moinmoin v2005-10-07
The goal of this page is to seek people who are interested to improve the state of games on Debian. As the debian-games mailing list doesn't exist anymore, people might now gather here.

'''Tasks'''{{{
 - the ["ParaGUI"] package is at 1.0
}}}
However many games use 1.1, so a package with the new API should be created and the old one phased out (see #316335){{{
 - the GGZ packages are vastly outdated
}}}
A jump from 0.0.7 to 0.0.11 would help especially game developers whose games conditionally depend on GGZ libraries
The goal of this page is to seek people who are interested to improve the state of games on Debian. Main place for games packaging happens within the [http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-games/ Debian Games Team], on the official [http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-games/ debian-games mailing lists], and the [http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-games-devel/ bugs and development list] on alioth.

The [http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-games/ debian-devel-games] mailing list is a place for general games development discussions and contact with users, while the [http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-games-devel/ development list] is the place for discussions about games' bugs and packages.

Debian Games official ["IRC"] channel is #debian-games on irc.debian.org (OFTC).

= Informations for users =

If you run unstable, you can install {{{goplay}}}, which is a nice frontend to install games. It has nice screenshots, which give a good impression of the games.

People doing games packaging might find more useful information on the Self:Games/Development page.

= Informations for sponsors =

Debian Developers will find information at the Self:Games/Sponsors page.

= Informations for developers and prospective team members =

People who want to see some games in Debian should look at Self:Games/Suggested and submit a request for package ([http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/requested RFP]) [http://bugs.debian.org bug report] against the [http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/ wnpp meta package].

Debtags was considered and Enrico Zini is open to new tags addition.

So using debtags, is a way to install cool games without looking at everything in the 'games' category which includes fortunes, bb etc. (which is cool also but maybe inappropriate ;)

= Goals =

Players often want to start game servers temporarily; some games have a GUI option but an init.d frontend with parameters to allow non-root start/stop (i.e. not using ''var''...) would be desired.
