This page lists games that appear suitable for Debian, but which were not packaged either because nobody had the time or because nobody heard about it yet. After processing one of these games (evaluation of license, packaging), please move the corresponding entries to the appropriate wiki page: Games/[package_name] or Games/Unsuitable.

Please keep the list alphabetically sorted!

See Games/Links if you are looking for other possible new games. Also, don't forget to check Games/WNPP.

Other games that are missing from Debian can be found in the games blend tasks and in the list of packages removed from Debian.

Note: If you want to see the status of a bug, move your mouse over the bug number (e.g. RFP or ITP). For packaging help, check out the PlayDeb repository on GitHub to avoid double work.

On the site Open Source Game Clones are some informations about open-source reimplementations of great old games.

An upstream developer named Cheeseness has expressed support for Debian packaging of their F/OSS games.

  • Home page: http://www.digitalpaint.org/

  • License: GPL
  • Sourceforge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/paintball2/

  • Description: With its high-value team objectives, limited range projectiles, and intense maneuvering, Paintball 2 offers a very unique experience that will appeal to both hardcore and novice players. It only takes one shot to eliminate somebody, but the fast-paced, arcade-style movement from Quake 2 allows for quick dodging, insane jumps, and breakneck speeds. Best of all, the game is completely free, and it's a small download, so just try it out!

ET: Legacy

  • Home page: http://www.etlegacy.com/

  • License: GPLv3; gamedata (non-free)
  • License issues: The engine is not completely free at the present time because it requires assets in etmain to be usable. Those are still covered by the original EULA. See http://dev.etlegacy.com/issues/900

  • Description: ET: Legacy is based on the source code of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory which was released under the GPLv3 license. The main goal of this project is to fix bugs, remove old dependencies and make it playable on all major operating systems while still remaining compatible with the ET 2.60b version and as many of its mods as possible....
  • Comments: The game engine itself can be built on Debian systems. Preliminary work is available at https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-games/etlegacy.git. The non-free game assets can be downloaded with game-data-packager. However as long as the engine requires assets from etmain/* (not the pak{0,1,2].pk3 files), even the engine cannot be packaged for Debian.
