 * Home page: [http://www.viewizard.com/astromenace/index_linux.php]
 * License: Recently GPLd; need to verify data
 * Download page: [http://sourceforge.net/projects/openastromenace]
 * Description: 3d scrolling space shooter
 * Comments: Looks nice, haven't tried packaging, building, or playing yet.

This page lists games that appear suitable for Debian, but which were not packaged either because nobody had the time or because nobody heard about it yet. After processing one of these games (evaluation of license, packaging), please move the corresponding entries to the appropriate wiki page: Games/[package_name] or ["Games/Unsuitable"].

Please keep the list alphabetically sorted!

See ["Games/Links"] if you are looking for other possible new games.

  • Connets ?FlorianLudwig 14.05.07: "bresser [AT] informatik uni-bremen de" created a debian package already. If you gonna build one please contact him to avoid doubled work. He is no dd and so I guess he needs a sponsor.

  • Are his packages online somewhere? I'd like to try them...
  • From the website: " I appreciate any helpful feedback, but please note, that this game is far from being stable or even playable." - bddebian

FreeRA

  • Home page: [http://www.freera.org]

  • License: GPL
  • Download page: [http://www.freera.org]

  • Description: Free engine to play the "Command & Conquer: Red Alert" game from Westwood under Linux.

  • Comments: Requires original game media files, so will need to go into contrib.

Freesynd

  • Home page: [http://freesynd.sourceforge.net/]

  • License: GPL
  • Download page: [http://freesynd.sourceforge.net/]

  • Description: Free engine to play the "Syndicate" game from Bullfrog under Linux. The first level is already roughly playable.
  • Comments: Requires original game media files, so will need to go into contrib. It actually ncludes the game media files in the 0.1 download tarball, but as the license status is unclear, they'll need to be removed and repackaged as .dfsg.tar.gz

  • comment: (Quote from the official faq) Two dependencies are automatically downloaded from configure script:
  • * ODE (Open Dynamics Engine)
  • * PHP (v5) The problem here is that a lot of Linux distros do not provides PHP as a library, but only as a CLI program and an Apache module. ODE is released by distros in a lot of various versions (0.3x, 0.5, 0.6, CVS), wich makes things very complex for us. As a packager, you must know that Raydium "configure" script does not generates anything (no config.h nor Makefile) and is only here to download ODE (from our server) and PHP (from www.php.net) and checks all other dependencies, so it's possible to package the game without calling configure script and provide these libraries in another way.
  • * Update: ODE 0.7 is in experimental and is maintained by the team. Things will be easier.

No Gravity

  • Home page: [http://www.realtech-vr.com/nogravity/]

  • License: GPL (source code and data)
  • Download page: [http://www.realtech-vr.com/nogravity/download.html]

  • Description: Polished 3D space shooter
  • Comments: This game used to be commercial, but was freed under the GPL in 2006. Thus, it's complete and polished. Integrating would require some work on the buildsystem. Right now the download tarballs lack Makefiles.
    • CVS has configure and make files. Game is actually kind of fun. I may work on it. - bddebian

World of Padman

  • Home page: http://worldofpadman.com

  • License: GPL for the source code, non-free license for game data (see below)
  • Download page: [http://worldofpadman.com]

  • Description: Polished, complete, comic-style first-person shooter
  • Comments: The game engine and source code are free software (GPLed), but the license for the game data doesn't permit commercial use, so the game could go into contrib with the game data into non-free
